Current Projects

ACLU of Washington

My full time gig is Internet Operations Manager at American Civil Liberties Union of Washington State. I do online communications strategy, as well as implementation. I maintain their site, although I didn’t build it. It runs on a custom ColdFusion CMS that was build by Fuse IQ. I am currently working with a Portland-based development firm, Grip Media, to plan, build, test, and implement a complete site redesign which will run on Drupal. My priorities for this project are accessibility, visibility, and usability.

Marijuana | It’s time for a conversation

I built and maintain this site. It’s running on WordPress. This is the first time that ACLU of Washington has used open source software, streaming video, and Creative Commons. So it was a success for me personally, and a milestone for the organization toward using community-oriented tools.

Freedom for IP

I built and maintain this site as well. It’s also running on WordPress. This is a very small, three person, all volunteer organization dedicated to reforming intellectual property laws.

Technology and Liberty Project

This is a program of ACLU of Washington. I was a member of their advisory committee. We did long term brainstorming and strategic planning around the intersection of technology and civil liberties. The director position for this program is currently empty, so the program is on haitus. The blog itself is run on Drupal 5, maintained by yours truly.

Past Projects

ArtWorks

I didn’t build or maintain this website, but I did serve on their Board of Directors. This was a fantastic local organization in Seattle. We hired teens who had recently been released from the juvenile justice system to paint murals all over the city. We also provided opportunities for community service for teens and adults. We had to close our doors in 2009 due to funding difficulties. The founder of the organization has taken it over and is attempting to find new funding.

NPower

NPower’s website was running on an old Microsoft CMS that was buggy and had virtually no user community. I provided strategic planning for them and oversaw a migration of their website to Plone, an open source CMS chosen for it’s rich feature set and active user community.
